Jim, how do you describe your role at V+A?

As the Managing Principal of V+A, I'm responsible for the day to day operations of the company. I truly love it as I've gained valuable knowledge in all areas of the business. I'm still responsible for group rating and assisting clients with any issues regarding workers' compensation.

What's the most rewarding part of your job?

Hearing the sense of relief from a client when we've assisted them with a claim or policy issue. I tell them if it was easy to deal with the BWC then I wouldn't have a job!

How do you make life better and/or easier for your clients?

By being available and responsive to their issues. We are a resource for employers so when we can handle tasks such as filing forms, updating their policy, reaching out to the BWC on their behalf or providing solutions to WC issues they understand we are their partner.

 How do your clients describe you?

Resourceful, determined, problem-solver, optimistic, knowledgeable.

What is your proudest moment?

Helping a prospective client with an ongoing BWC audit in which they were being assessed over $2 million dollars in additional premium. Their current TPA had told them to pay it and there was nothing they could do. After reviewing the audit findings I discovered a BWC error in which they charged the employer twice for the same period. The BWC assessment was ultimately reduced by over half and the prospect quickly became a client.

When you're not helping your clients save time, money, and sanity, where can we find you?

Rocking out to Johnny Cash or Chris Cornell in my garage building something out of wood or cleaning my motorcycles or truck. From September to March you'll probably find me at a hockey rink watching my son play.
